James Prosek is an artist and writer whose work explores the distance between the living world and the systems humans use to divide, name, and represent it. Rooted in close observation and field experience, his practice moves between order and mystery, attending to what names and images can reveal and what inevitably escapes them.

Working across painting, drawing, sculpture, and installation, Prosek draws upon the histories of art and natural science to explore interconnectedness, memory, and the shifting boundaries between nature and culture.

He has published more than a dozen books and exhibited internationally at institutions including the Yale University Art Gallery, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Asia Society Hong Kong Center, the Royal Academy of Arts in London, and the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco.
